Gauri’s Adoption *
“From ashes, she rose…”
A girl of mere 6 years who was physically tortured and sexually abused was admitted to CWD in 2020. She had severe burn marks and bruises all over her body along with extreme mental trauma.
She was initially fearful and scared of the slightest touch or interaction. She was hesitant to talk about her past trauma with the staff or even other children. After a detailed medical examination was performed to assess her injuries, the CWD counsellor stepped in and supported the child with counselling sessions.
It was found that the girl had a few behavioral areas that needed immediate intervention. After several months and many sessions, she gradually started talking to the counsellor and other staff members.
She would engage in extracurricular activities, playtime with other children, and started forming attachments with some staff members as well. She was then enrolled in a close by Government School for regular formal education, where it was realized by the school teachers and CWD staff that she is a slow learner. With regular supplementary education at CWD and regular classes at school, she slowly started to improve in academics.
Eventually, once she was declared legally free for adoption, she was matched with several Indian Prospective Adoptive Parents but nobody successfully reserved her until a sweet and loving family came forward and reserved her on Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA).
The family has made such impactful efforts for the child that now she is performing well in academics and extra curricular activities and with the parents’ pure love and support, she is happy finally!
